Danube Cruise! My wife and I, experienced Cruisers, booked with Avalon one of the Legendary with much trepidation, having done a number of Rhine Cruises many years ago, which put us off River Cruising for life!
However, having read a 2 page spread in the Mail on Sunday some months earlier about your Danube Cruise, we decided to give it a go to celebrate our Silver Wedding in July this year. Thank goodness we did.
Our 3 days in the fabulous Prague Hilton were wonderful, the coach journey onwards to our ship was comfortable, slick and stress-free. We were thrilled with our Sapphire deck Stateroom and couldn’t believe the high standard given our previous experience. It is clear that River Cruising has come a long way, and, if the MV Tapestry is now soon to be your oldest Ship, then we can’t wait to sample one of your newest.
River Cruise For Beginners
Food was superb, simply superb with plenty of choice, and the staff were exceptional; nothing was too much trouble, not that one had to ask for much, it was, well, all just done. We also had the drinks package offered prior to departure, (therein lies another story, which we will now list separately under comments). The excursions were well organised and interesting, it was appreciated that there was a “freebie” walking tour every day and one didn’t have to be constantly dipping into one’s pockets as one does with “Sea” Cruises.Having said that, the optional excursions were excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed those which we chose/indulged in.
Our biggest worry was that we would miss the big Theatres – not a bit of it! Entertainment was fantastic, local acts coming on in various “ports of call”, but the piece-de-resistance for us was the “Crew’s Evening”
– we laughed till our sides ached and we still “dine out” on describing one particularly hilarious act.
Our Avalon Cruise has taught us that “small is beautiful” and “less is more”. Our days of Sea Cruises on big ships are over,we are completely sold on River Cruising to Avalon standards from now on. We still call this our “Bliss Trip” and we always will. Thank you.
Actually, there is one complaint. The “late night snack” on offer from about 10.45ish. We just couldn’t find room for it!!!!

MAGNIFICENT EUROPE - BUDAPEST TO AMSTERDAM
I can safely say river cruises Europe from Avalon offer absolutely fabulous cruises. The "from your door to the Airport and return" transfers were superb. Our on board Tour Director (Jeanette) was excellent and always there for us all. Fellow guests were from the top drawer and great travelling companions. The intimacy of the boat created a Family atmosphere and the day by day free seating dining arrangements meant that by the day we disembarked, we were leaving many friends. This is a truly magnificent cruise, which we will repeat, perhaps from Budapest down to the Black Sea. Top marks Avalon!
